Alexandra Yacht Club Host Race in memory of Matthew Dear

Chris and Tina Dear are sponsoring the Matt Dear Trophy again this year in memory of their dear son who died following a critical reaction to steroids,

The race will be hosted by the Alexandra Yacht Club in Southend on Sea and the order of the day is as follows:

Registration On Jetty From 11:00 Onwards with a briefing at 12:15 the Matt Trophy Race Starts at 13:25

Join Chris, Tina and family and friends for a BBQ at Clubhouse at 6:00 (Allowing time for boats to return to clubs and competitors to change and return to AYC) with Presentations at 20:00 There will be a Raffle and Disco Till 00:00

This is the second year this race has been held.  The race is an Open event for any cadet/junior or person under the age of 18 can take part.  The trophy is to promote sailing for young people.  The race will take place under the Alexandra Yacht Club rules. 
  
 
As Matthew loved his sailing days we hope this trophy will encourage cadets/juniors and young people to race and for us to carry on raising awareness of the risks of anabolic steroids, so his life has not ended in vain.  If we can give one person an informed choice then this will be a positive thing from such a devastating tragedy.
